The Experimental Media and Movement Arts Lab (EMMA) is a joint research project and facility of the Department of Dance and the Advanced
ComputingCenter for the Arts and Design (ACCAD). Located at ACCAD,
EMMA is an innovative multimedia teaching and performance space that
facilitates the collaborative usage of the motion capture studio and a full
suite of digital media tools. It is a site for experimentation in the creative
engagement between the moving body and emerging technologies.
The facility includes:
a sprung wood floor and marley for dancing
a suite of wireless sensors, optic systems, and actuators
for wearable computing and responsive environments
wireless virtual reality capabilities
motion capture technology
audio and video equipment including projectors, cameras, DVD
decks and soundboard
screens and hanging surfaces for projection
theater and video lighting
dedicated computers and access to the ACCAD media lab with
20+ computers and
software for computer graphics, animation, and more
