undergraduate
program
The Ohio State University BFA in Dance provides a comprehensive
education across the field of contemporary dance with a
core focus on the dancing experience. To that end, students
are offered a solid foundation in the areas of the curriculum
including: technique, performance, choreography, Laban Studies,
pedagogy, history and technology during their first two
years of study. Expanding upon this foundation, students
are afforded the opportunity to focus on individual areas
of interest supported by mentoring and interaction with
faculty.
Our program encourages integration of the curricular areas,
supports an interdisciplinary approach, promotes the education
of the whole person, values cultural and curricular diversity,
and responds to the individual needs of students, faculty,
the dance field, and our broader culture. Students leave
the program with the skills, perspective and imagination
to be visionaries, advocates, and leaders in the field of
dance and in their communities.

his/her own leotard, tights without feet, and ballet shoes.
The audition will be conducted and judged by a committee
of dance faculty who, in turn, advise the department chairperson

The BFA program in Dance follows a course curriculum that begins in the Autumn quarter of each academic year. For this reason, students, including transfers, can only be admitted into the program for Autumn quarter. The university deadline for Autumn 2008 admission into OSU is February 1, 2008 for prospective freshman. Because Autumn admission is the most competetive, students interested in majoring in dance should apply to the University as early as possible so that we may be notified of your admissions status in a timely fashion.
