going to the wallGoing to the Wall
(DVD,DVD-ROM) Currently designed to run on Mac OS X

Funded by the National Initiative to Preserve America's Dance (NIPAD), this interactive DVD-ROM was one of the 1998 model projects. It was co-created by Vera Maletic, A. William Smith, and Roberta Shaw (1999-2000). The DVD-ROM documents the process of creating Bebe Miller's 1998 work Going to the Wall, dealing with issues of diversity. The piece was created in collaboration with eight dancers, a dramaturge, lighting designer, and set and costume designers. All the components of the piece are documented on this educational multimedia disc which elucidates the context of the work and the collaboration through a series of interviews, dramaturgical notes, images of sets, costumes and the lighting plot. The section on the structure and thematic content of the piece is of particular interest due to the choreographer's voice-over describing particular movements, which can be viewed by choosing amongst several different camera shots.
