Susan Chess (Music Supervisor) received her Bachelor of Music Education, Master of Arts Degree, and Ph.D in Music Education from The Ohio State University. Her graduate studies include work in music technology, harpsichord, composition and piano. She studied contemporary harmony with David Wheeler in Columbus Ohio, Improvisation and Composition for modern dance with Charles Rybacki and Hazel Johnson in New York. Her workshops include presentations for the Ohio Dance Festival, The National Dalcroze Conference, International Guild of Musicians in Dance, the OSU Somatics program, Music Educators National Conference, Ohio Music Teacher Association and others. She continues to stay in touch with pre-college students by visiting the public schools, arts impact schools, and dance studios, and has been on the music faculty for the Summer Institute for Gifted and Talented Students in the Arts. Ms. Chess has played master classes for The Martha Graham Company, Dance Theater of Harlem, Columbus Ballet Metropolitan, Merce Cunningham Company, Bebe Miller, Mark Morris, the Bolshoi and the Kirov Ballet Company and many more. She received her Certification in Dalcroze Eurhythmics from Carnegie Mellon in 1999 and has worked as a Digital Editor for Instant Pleasure, Inc., which developed music educational software for electronic keyboards. Ms. Chess released a CD of her original music entitled Light from Light, has created music for original choreography, video, and CD-ROM projects and has performed in numerous dance concerts. Ms. Chess composed and arranged music for Laban Lab, which is a website created at The Ohio State University used to teach Labanotation. She continues to serve as an adjunct accompanist for the Columbus Ballet Metropolitan while she continues her duties in the Dance Department at Ohio State. In addition to supervising dance musicians, teaching, and playing for technique classes in the OSU Department of Dance, Ms. Chess teaches Class Piano in the Elective program at The Ohio State University School of Music.
